Acrylic is a two-part system: liquid monomer mixed with powder polymer. The combination creates a pliable bead that hardens through chemical reaction in minutes — no UV light needed. Gel is a single-component material cured under UV or LED light nail by nail. The curing process takes seconds per nail.

Look and Feel

Gel produces a naturally glossy finish straight from application. It is lighter and has a slight flexibility that mimics the natural nail's flex. Acrylic initially appears more matte after filing and shaping — gel polish is applied over the top for colour and gloss. Acrylic is more rigid, which some clients find takes getting used to.

Strength and Durability

Acrylic is stronger. For very long nail extensions — extra-long coffin or stiletto shapes — acrylic provides better structural integrity. Gel extensions are more appropriate for short to medium lengths. Acrylic also holds up better to physical work and frequent hand-washing.
